Yo-Yo Ma appears in two concerts in Hamburg as part of the Elbphilharmonie’s opening season this January.

Mr. Ma and pianist Kathryn Stott reunite onstage to perform the Arc of Life Suite, featuring a selection of music from their 2015 album Songs from the Arc of Life. They perform the music of Bach, Sibelius, Debussy, Shostakovich, Sollima, and more on January 24.

On January 26, Mr. Ma takes the stage with clarinetist and Silk Road Ensemble member Kinan Azmeh for the world premiere of Azmeh’s The Fence, The Rooftop and the Distant Sea, commissioned by the Elbphilharmonie. Israeli-Palestinian pianist Saleem Ashkar joins them for Brahms’s Clarinet Trio in a minor. A group of Syrian musicians – including violinist Mayas Alyamani, violinist Sousan Eskandar, violist Thaer Eid, cellist Basilius Alawad, bassist Robert Landfermann, and percussionist Bodek Janke – join Mr. Ma and Mr. Azmeh to perform Issam Rafea’s for you plus Azmeh’s November 22nd and Wedding.

The Elbphilharmonie presents a screening of The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble on January 25.
