Yo-Yo Ma: 30 Years Outside the Box, a deluxe limited-numbered box set of Yo-Yo Ma’s recorded legacy, celebrates his 30th Anniversary recording with Sony Music. Created with the full participation of Yo-Yo Ma, 30 Years Outside the Box is the definitive collection of this iconic artist in a presentation as beautiful and timeless as the music itself.

  • 30 Years Outside The Box will comprise 88 discs of original album releases (entirely remastered with DSD technology) and an additional two discs of bonus material.
  • All discs will be presented in original jacket-style minijackets housed in a beautifully designed, velvet-lined box.
  • The box set includes a large hard-bound book with archival photos, essays, full track lists, original liner notes, and credits. The book also contains a foreword by longtime Yo-Yo Ma collaborator and Grammyy®-winning pianist Emanuel Ax.
  • The book’s main essay, by noted music journalist Richard Dyer, focuses on Mr. Ma’s multifaceted, boundary-defying career and his place as a cultural figure known throughout the world.

Celebrating his 30th anniversary with Sony Classical and Sony Masterworks, Yo-Yo Ma has recorded over 75 albums (including 15 Grammy® Award winners) reflecting his wide-ranging interests. He has made several successful recordings that defy categorization, among them Hush with Bobby McFerrin, Appalachia Waltz and Appalachian Journey with Mark O’Connor and Edgar Meyer and two Grammy®-winning tributes to the music of Brazil, Obrigado Brazil and Obrigado Brazil - Live in Concert. Yo-Yo Ma’s most recent recordings include Paris: La Belle Époque, with pianist Kathryn Stott, Appassionato, which contains some of the world’s most romantic music and New Impossibilities, a live album recorded with the Silk Road Ensemble and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; he also appears on John Williams’s soundtrack for Rob Marshall’s film Memoirs of a Geisha.
