Yo-Yo Ma Honored at The Kennedy Center Honors Awards

This Tuesday, December 27 on CBS, you can watch the broadcast of The Kennedy Center Honors. This year, the Kennedy Center recognized Yo-Yo Ma, along with Meryl Streep, Barbara Cook, Sonny Rollins, and Neil Diamond. The Washington Post praised the salute to Yo-Yo: "The show’s finale was an extended tribute to Ma, which was a bit of a surprise, given that the last spot is usually reserved for a stirring medley of the pop-music honoree’s big hits. But the final musical mash-up was somehow appropriate for Ma, the much-celebrated cellist who has regularly wandered far from his classical roots. First came an introduction by Stephen Colbert (Ma has been a guest on his show) followed by remarks from Elmo (Ma has appeared on his show, “Sesame Street”). The performance segment included a classical quintet, a bluegrass trio and the world-music Silk Road Ensemble."

Stephen Colbert even had some choice words to say about his favorite cellist the day after the awards ceremony.
