You and Yo-Yo Ma
I first spent several minutes trying to figure out why a cello had its own seat on the tiny Horizon flight between Portland and Seattle in December 2010. It was only after several people stopped to shake the hand of the man sitting next to me that I put it all together. Thank you so much for the wonderful conversation -- I feel so fortunate to have shared the mundane experience of cramped commuter flight with such a legendary and humble person.
The offer to visit Juneau still stands, and I hope you'll come visit us soon!
Photo was taken @ 1994 Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C.: This photo contains some famous musician besides the lady up front with me. The lady next to me is Susan Au Allen, who is one of the top lawyers in Washington, D.C. She is also the President of the Asian Pacific American Association. Did you guess who the famous internationally known musician is? Give up? He is none other than Yo Yo Ma who is smiling behind us.
Dearest Mr. Ma,
Every time I look at this photo I can't help but giggle with such joy!!! I was delighted you were surprised! Thank you for your genuinity, kindness and smile. Meeting a Living Legend like yourself was truly a dream come true. I have wanted to play the cello since I was 5, and attended my first and only Classical concerto in Mexico. A bit late in life, perhaps, but I'm finally making my dream come true! As a new student of this GORGEOUS instrument, I'm delighted and inspired by your playing!
I had the honor of meeting you Mr. Ma at Symphony Hall in Boston. I am a cellist myself and you have been an inspiration to for me since I was a child. I even danced with my dad to "Here Comes the Sun" with James Taylor at my wedding. You are a special artist!
