I love yo yo ma SO much. I think he is all kinds of groovy. his music speaks to my soul. without yo yo ma i don't know where i'd be- he's helped me through some real harsh times.
Hello, I'm Danielle, and I just got a rental cello a few days ago. Any suggestions on how to play? I have the first few notes of "twinkle twinkle little star" down, but that's about it. One thing I don't understand is how to remember where the right notes are without any markings!
Help is much appreciated!
Hope you have enough time to get your roses or chocolates
Love,
T.
Any chance that someone out there would have an idea where to look for notation for the beautiful Gabriel's oboe piece on the CD of Morricone's music....?
A flock of sparrows outside my window
The smoke of ice melting from the sunshine
They fly away and return, three resting on the tree limb with ice
I'm listening to "You Couldn't Be Cuter" I love this selection
The fact that the Inaugural composition was pre recorded does not take anything away from the joy I felt at having these magnificent performers participate. Yo Yo Ma's ebullience reflected and enhanced my appreciation of this momentous event. Especially so because of his personal diplomatic and inclusive efforts throughout the world.
Mr. Ma,
It was the classical dream team that played at the inaugural for President Obama. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.
What a day you must have had. Your smile was electric and a bright light on such a cold day. Thank you for playing for the world today. President Obama and the rest of us were so lucky to see you play. The music was wonderful. But you sir were fantastic.
I thought that the inaugural performance of "Air and Simple Gifts" was beautiful. I hope that a recording was made, or will be made of it. I hope these wonderful musicians will consider doing that.
Thank you again for providing such a exquisite interlude during the ceremony!
Been a Yo-Yo Ma fan for years, for all the stated reasons-- a consumate artist. Attend every concert he does in Columbus (every other year or so) andappreciate his suopport for local musicians. And his performance today (1/20/09) was great to watch! Yo!
I could not imagine a more beautiful, fitting piece of music performed today for the most auspicious and historical presidential inauguration of my lifetime. Heartening, optimistic, inspiring – and the joy-filled spirit in which it was delivered will make it memorable to me forever.
This the first cd I found and your music was extremely exquisite!!!!You can play softly and heavenly at the same time and then transmit all your feelings so deeply......completly fascinated!!!!
I was so happy to see you in DC for the Inauguration - a wonderful occasion for all of us and a perfect venue for your beautiful music. Thank you for your graciousness in giving me an autograph...I hesitated to ask (for a minute) but your warm response was appreciated. Thank you!
Here it is at 4pm December 31st, the date of the Dona Nobis Pacem contest closing. My children (11-year old on bassoon and 13-year old on oboe) and I have just finished mixing our entry, and we find that the contest has closed!
The contest is a lovely idea and we're huge YoYo Ma fans. But after working on our entry for the last week, we're sad. Really sad!! I'm posting this in the hopes that someone from Indaba Music is online and can answer a question about when the contest really, truly closed. The website stated that entries were being accepted through today.
Hi
I'm a guitarist and I've recorded a CD with the cellist Kalyan. It's called 'Cello Circles'. It's newly improvised cello music with a rich tapestry of orchestrations played on a range of instruments.
Grammy nominated cellist David Darling calls it:
"An orchestral and sonic triumph of sound…you give us so many voices to listen to and as a cellist I would have to say that Kalyan is a first rate modern jazz and world music cellist…"
I thought you might enjoy to hear some samples here:

Happy Holidays to You and Your Friends, too!!!
All my love,
